Our Story

Pure Kashmiri Laccha Saffron

In Pampore, Kashmir, saffron blooms for just two weeks each year. Most of this harvest is cut, diluted, or faked before it reaches you.

ZAFR brings you the real thing — direct from the farm.

Where It Grows

Pampore, Kashmir sits at 1,600m altitude with unique soil conditions that give this saffron its extraordinary flavour and colour. No other region in the world produces saffron quite like this.

How It's Picked

The harvest happens in a two-week window each year. Farmers begin picking flowers at 4 AM while they're still closed, preserving the essential oils. It takes 75,000 flowers to produce just one pound of saffron.

Who Grows It

We work directly with farming families in Pampore who have been growing saffron for generations. Your saffron is handled by only four pairs of hands — from farm to your doorstep.

Purity & Authenticity

Why Laccha Saffron?

Laccha is the purest form of Kashmiri saffron. The red stigma stays attached to the yellow style — a whole thread that proves it's real. This structure can't be faked with dyes or synthetics.

The Whole Thread

In Laccha saffron, the red stigma stays connected to the yellow style. This dual-toned thread is your visual proof that the saffron is real — it can't be replicated with dyes or fillers.

The Water Test

Drop a Laccha thread into warm water. Real saffron slowly releases a golden-yellow colour — the thread stays intact and keeps its colour. Fake saffron dissolves, bleeds red, or turns white.

Laccha vs Mogra

Most saffron sold is "Mogra" — the red threads cut from the yellow base. This makes it easy to mix in fakes. Laccha keeps the whole flower structure intact, so you can see the authenticity with your own eyes.

Frequently Asked

Keep your glass vial in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. The cork seal and glass housing protect the volatile Safranal and Crocin oils. Properly stored, your saffron maintains peak potency for over a year.

Drop a single thread into warm water. Authentic Lacha saffron releases a golden-yellow color slowly while the thread remains intact and retains its deep crimson hue. Fake saffron dissolves, bleeds red, or turns white.

Every shipment is fully insured and tracked. From the high altitudes of the Himalayas to your doorstep, you will have eyes on your gold every step of the way. Domestic orders typically arrive within 5-7 business days.

Saffron is a volatile treasure. Light, plastic, and metal are its enemies. The inert nature of our glass vial ensures the essential oils — the Safranal and Crocin — remain trapped within the threads. The cork provides a natural seal that doesn't taint the aroma. It stays as potent on day 300 as it was on day one.
